Peter Schiavello was introduced to Claudio Bellini through his father, Mario Bellini. In 2003, Peter and Mario had collaborated on the Schiavello NGV Bench during redevelopment of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), a design that 15 years on, still resides in the public spaces throughout the gallery.
“After meeting Claudio, we decided to find a project to work on together,” Peter says. “We explored a few different projects but in 2012, we decided that the one we would bring to life was Blom. A seating and table collection that would cater to outdoor and indoor spaces that people connect and gather around.”
The Blom collection is a sculptural and joyful range, extending across a collection of tables and chairs. Available as both an outdoor or upholstered design, the versatility of Blom is enviable. “The Blom Low Height Tables are not just available in plastic but also upholstered,” says Peter. “I haven’t seen any other upholstered low height tables; I think this is a fantastic feature because it allows a designer to choose a colour and fabric to work perfectly with their interiors.”
Claudio Bellini lives and works in Milan, where he graduated in architecture and industrial design at the renowned Politecnico University in 1990. His strong fascination with creativity is rooted in his early childhood years, inspired by his father Mario Bellini who is regarded as one of the most important figures in design history.
Today, his studio, Claudio Bellini Design, is recognised as one of Europe’s most influential studios, with its range of international architecture projects as well as product and furniture design. His designs have won him worldwide recognition, including prestigious awards such as the Red Dot Award, IF Award, and Good Design Award.
Claudio describes his creative process as a mind adventure; free of any prejudice, animated only by enthusiasm, curiosity and optimism. His open-minded attitude, combined with a peculiar sensibility for historical heritage, and a deep understanding for material, production processes and market requirements, is expressed within his designs.
