Schiavello’s products are designed and engineered in facilities internationally certified to ISO 14001 environmental management standards.
The first Australian furniture manufacturer to have achieved this status, Schiavello's long-standing commitment to the environment includes the use of LCA (life-cycle assessment) to design products that have less impact on the environment. This method focuses on environmental considerations in product development and design including energy inputs and outputs in production, consumption and product disposal, and evaluates the environmental implications of materials.
This process also considers:
Inputs + processing: the use of sustainable, managed renewable materials and certified timbers (FSC), and a reduced use of non-renewable materials (petroleum, metal, plastic), virgin material and embodied energy and mass intensity.
Management + design: our externally certified EMS (Environmental Management System) and ISO 14001-2008 compliance.
Distribution: reduced transportation energy and packaging waste through re-use.
Point of use: durability, extending product life backed up by warranties; modularity, increasing flexibility and reducing churn; improved indoor air quality by reducing VOC’s with the use of E0/E1 medium density fibreboard and MDF powder coating; and minimising ozone depleting gas emissions.
After initial use: maximisation of resource recovery and component re-use - breaking down product into elementary materials and components in order to repair, re-use and/or recycle as many components as possible. |
