Hikes, head-shaves, and abseils - all in the name of social responsibility
With a backpack full of essentials and their comfiest runners, last year our NSW construction team walked a whopping 250km to raise awareness and much-needed funding for our drought-affected farmers.
The hike was just one of many social initiatives undertaken by the team.
Beginning at their Surry Hills office, the team braved the five-day journey with many challenges along the way, including navigating electric fences and conquering 700m inclines. Throughout the trek, they raised awareness at every township with encouragement from locals being a welcome addition to the generous donations from our subcontractors, partners, and clients.
The walk finished in the regional town of Goulburn Mulwaree, where Deputy Mayor Peter Walker personally welcomed the team to praise their efforts. In total, we raised $85,000 for the Red Cross, with $10,000 of our own donated to the ‘Goulburn Mayoral Drought Relief Fund’.
The past several months has seen our NSW construction team raise awareness and incredible sums of money for various charities.
They raised over $55,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation where NSW State Director Christopher Schiavello had his then trademark man-bun shaved off. The generosity of everyone involved positioned Christopher’s fundraised amount at the highest across Australia. The amount raised was enough to fund three years of laboratory costs for research or allow 220 families to participate in much-needed support programmes.
Not long after, the team abseiled 250m down the side of a building to raise $20,000 for youth in crisis across Australia.
Our hope is to not only encourage others to participate but to get the industry more involved in having a positive social impact. It’s important to us as a business that we give back, and we would love to bring our clients on board that journey.
