QUT H Block to receive state-of-the-art refurbishment making it the university’s premier teaching and research laboratory
Our QLD construction team is proud to begin works transforming a 60-year-old building into Queensland University of Technology’s (QUT) premier teaching and research laboratory at Kelvin Grove campus.
The project began in early March with a complete demolition to the building’s core structures, and within a few months, our team will be unveiling a cutting-edge PC2 laboratory.
The PC2 (physical containment level 2) rated lab will be fully equipped to support the university’s research activities involving bacteria, microbial cultures, and pathogenic samples. The lab will also house several research projects including those involving cell culturing and incubation.
“We will be installing specialist medical grade equipment to facilitate research including incubators, freezer rooms, and heating/culture rooms. We’ll also be installing safety measures such as biosafety cabinets and state-of-the-art filtration systems capable of handling medical gases,” explains Schiavello QLD State Director Steven Kourevelis.
Once complete, QUT’s H block lab is set to be an architecturally designed, one-of-a-kind research and education facility.
“My team and I are very excited to be working with RAL Architects and QUT facilities management (Capital Works) towards an impressive design that maximises the potential of this site. We’re very proud to be offering our specialist construction capabilities for an architectural masterpiece,” Steven adds.
