Playford Health Hub

The Playford Health Hub was more than just another healthcare project; it was an opportunity to help shape the future of medical infrastructure in South Australia. Delivered by Schiavello Construction as Stage 2 of the landmark $51 million development, the project brought together innovation, sustainability and technical precision to create a next-generation health precinct for the growing northern suburbs, reinforcing Schiavello Construction’s growing presence in the healthcare sector across South Australia.

Developed by NorthWest Healthcare Properties Australia and Vital Healthcare Property Trust, the three-storey facility was designed as a high-tech, interconnected medical hub powered entirely by renewable energy. As South Australia’s first registered 6-Star Green Star Medical Office Building, the project set a new benchmark for environmentally sustainable healthcare design.

Technical expertise below ground

One of the project’s most technically challenging components was the construction of the basement, extending approximately six metres below ground level. The basement structure incorporated CFA piling extending to depths of 15 metres. Working closely with Belpile, our team undertook detailed Design & Construct analysis to optimise pile spacing efficiencies while ensuring structural integrity and compliance with the project’s loading criteria.

Although groundwater was not encountered within the basement excavation, our project team implemented a robust waterproofing strategy to future-proof the structure. Full vertical strip drainage, plastic face membranes and Xypex shotcrete applications were installed to the piled walls, delivering long-term protection and durability to the basement envelope.

Today, the completed Playford Health Hub stands as a state-of-the-art healthcare destination accommodating a range of leading medical providers, including Calvary Health Care, GenesisCare, Clinpath Pathology and RadiologySA, alongside GP consulting suites and supporting retail tenancies.

For our team, the Playford Health Hub was more than the delivery of a highly technical building. It was the opportunity to contribute to a future-focused healthcare environment that will support the needs of patients, practitioners and the wider community for years to come.
