With the rise in soft architecture and breakout spaces, particularly within the workplace, Ivan Woods designed a collection of ottomans for Schiavello. The product sought to be adaptable, comfortable and versatile.

Far from the cry of the early ottoman – which can be traced back to the Turkish Ottoman Empire and was designed as a low wooden platform consisting of cushions – the Karo Ottoman is elegant, easy to move, sculptural and encourages warmth to the space it resides within. Due to its adaptable nature and refined upholstery, Karo is a timeless addition to the Schiavello range.

Karo Ottoman

The late Ivan Woods designed interiors and products for over 30 years. His work drew inspiration from his travels and interior architecture training in Perth, Australia. Working across projects within the UK, US, Germany and Italy, Ivan specialised in hotel and workspace design.

Schiavello and Ivan have a solid history together. Our collaborative design process, which evolved over a decade, has yielded distinctive collections such as Kayt Village, Maui Chair, Bomba Sofa, Tango and many more.

With a strong architectural sensibility and carefully considered geometry, Ivan enriched his designs’ emotional qualities in the fine detailing and sense of place. Ivan explained, "Good design is the creation of spaces, experiences and objects, embedded with strong and dynamic emotional connections to the people that use them. This is done through reflecting a sense of place, with a cultural authenticity and aesthetic."
